Nader is 44 and is from Deraa, Syria. He has been living in Jordan for almost 9 years with his wife and children.

In Syria, Nader was a mechanical engineer, a qualification that makes him the right fit for his job as technical team leader at the waste sorting station in Za’atari camp. Nader is in charge of managing the different workers at the sorting station and overseeing that all machines function correctly.

I am very happy at work. It allows me to provide for my family, I don’t have any other work. I have two diplomas, a Master's degree in social science and a diploma in mechanical engineering.

Nader truly believes in the positive impact recycling and waste sorting have on the environment and on the community that lives in the camp. 97% of people are very cooperative and recycle and sort their waste efficiently. Many of them actually work at the sorting stations. “Hopefully this system,” he explains, “will be implemented everywhere in Jordan and in the Arab world.”
